Guard your Mind, Your Heart and Your Tongue

One of the most important aspects in this battle to regain control of your thought processes is to think about what you are thinking about. As a believer in Jesus Christ, you are responsible for your own thought life; no one else will be held accountable for the thoughts that you allow to simmer on the back burners of your highly productive brain. It is true that some of your actions may be prompted by peer pressure, and it is just as true that some of the words you speak might be a justifiable reaction to another person's influence; however, only you have the authority to determine what goes on between your two ears.

Often, we give ourselves healthy boundaries for the actions we choose to demonstrate and the words we choose to speak to others. However, the boundaries that we set for ourselves must not be limited to those two areas; creating mental boundaries is also a part of our quest to live a healthy life. Although your mind might be a secret, cavernous place, it still needs specific boundaries within which to operate.

The thoughts that you choose to think on a given day will determine your attitudes and moods for that day. A thought always precedes an emotion; remind yourself daily that a solid thought becomes an authoritative emotion before it is ever expressed through your mouth. Thus, every word that you speak has its conception in your brain; the birthing room of every emotion and every conversation is found in the Petri dish of your mental choices. Again, your emotions originate as thoughts, and your words tend to follow your emotions or feelings, so the processing sequence goes like this:

Thought —> Feeling or Attitude —> Action or Spoken Words

Today is the day to think about what you are thinking about, and to make up your mind!
Today is the day to ask God for His wisdom so that you will be able to live a life with kingdom impact. You are part of God's incredible and forceful plan—so think like it!

Personal Application:

"Whatever we believe, we will become."
Think of two or three ways in which this truth has manifested in your own life.
