Someone once said the most sensitive nerve in the human
body is the one that leads to the pocketbook.
In 1923, a very important meeting
was held in Chicago , Illinois . Attending the meeting were nine of
the world's most successful financiers. It was a high-powered group of people -
men who knew the secret of making money. There was no doubt where their altar
was.
Let's take a look at where they were 25 years
later, in 1948.
The president of the largest independent steel company, Charles Schwab, died bankrupt after living on borrowed money for five years previous. The president of the greatest utility company, Samuel Insull, died a fugitive from justice, penniless in a foreign land. The president of the largest gas company, Howard Hopson, was insane. The greatest wheat speculator, Arthur Cuttor, died abroad, insolvent. The president of the New York Stock Exchange, Richard Whitney, had just been released from Sing Sing. A member of the President's cabinet, Albert Fall, was pardoned from prison so he could die at home.
All of these men knew how to make money, but not
one of them learned how to live.
If money is one of your altars, ask God to
make you aware of how you can change.
Prayer:
Lord, you are my altar. Therefore, I have peace.
