The typical approach of psychologists, psychiatrists,
and the average clergymen has been to attempt to change people through the
rational approach. But my opinion is that people never change from rationality,
they only change when you touch their buttons - when they are turned on
emotionally.
Another way to express this concept is by saying
alter your altars and your whole life will change. What do I mean by an altar?
Every person has one. It's the control center deep within you, that source of
emotional nourishment that turns you on. Every person has this command center.
Touch it and it sparks. Hit it and you hear things. The hidden command center,
the control center, the power point, is your altar.
For some people, it's their ideology. For others,
a personal philosophy of life. And for some, their value system.
Do you know what your altars are?
Can you think of
a situation where you reacted, or overreacted, because someone pushed one of
your emotional buttons?
Prayer:
Lord, you're in charge of my control center.
