What To Do When You Receive Bad News

"A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from the other side of the sea. . . Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD. . ." (2 Chron 20:2-3) Have you ever had someone bring you really bad news? It was so bad that when you heard it your stomach immediately became upset. You went into crisis mode. I once received a letter that brought such fear upon me that I could hardly stand up. This was the situation for King Jehoshaphat. He had just been informed that his country was going to be attacked by an army much larger than his. However, instead of panicking, he immediately turned to the Lord by calling for a time of fasting and prayer. The people from every town in Judah responded. King Jehoshaphat prayed and reminded God of His promise to Israel. Then he asked God for strategy. "For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you." At the end of his prayer, it says they waited for God’

The Good Shepherd

“The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” JOHN 10:11 NIV One of the figures of speech Jesus applied to Himself was that of a shepherd. He said, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. . . . I know my sheep and my sheep know me” (John 10:11–12, 14 NIV ). Note four things about Jesus: The Good Shepherd. He owns the sheep; they belong to Him. Next, He guards the sheep; He never abandons them when danger approaches. He knows the sheep; He calls them by name and they follow Him. He lays down His life for the sheep; their salvation is His primary concern. The Bible says, “We are His people and the sheep of His pasture” (Psalm 100:3) . Because we belong to Christ, we can be secure and at rest. Recognizing the Source of Success

David was nearing the end of his life. The prophet Nathan was responding to David's idea to build a temple where the Ark of the Covenant would stay. God reminded David through the prophet of his roots and where He had brought him. God took David from the fields of pasturing sheep to pastoring a nation.
