Waiting Well

2 Peter 3:8

But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.(A)

Additional Scripture Readings: Psalm 40:1; Psalm 130:6

We all wait. For jobs, answers to prayer, for another chance after we've failed. God's view of time is not like ours. If we want to show God we trust him, we'll learn to wait well. Here's how:

  • Think right. We can give God room to work while we wait and train our minds to remember that God is working while we wait.
  • Stay present. We can live to the fullest right now without waiting for a "better" time. We can enjoy today.
  • Watch out. Waiting times can be times of great temptation. We need to keep our guard up.
  • Seek God. We can learn to love God and not just his gifts. We need to clarify what it is we're waiting for. Do we want more of God or more of what God wants for us or just more of what we want? While God may not always give us exactly what we want, he does always give us himself.

Wait well—not because it's all we can do. Wait well because it's what God asks us to do.
